De-selve Sabra Hummus on Northeastern!

We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned with On the Go and Wollaston's sale of Sabra hummus. Sabra's parent company vocally and financially supports the illegal occupation of Palestinian land. 

Founded in 1986 as Sabra-Blue & White Foods, the company was sold to Israeli food manufacturer the Strauss Group in 2005, a corporation known for its explicit support for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), namely the elite Golani and Givati infantry brigades. Although the IDF itself has a long history of violating international law, the Golani and Givati Brigades, since 1948, have been notorious for their severe human rights abuses in Lebanon and Palestine. The brigades have recently attracted attention for their atrocious war crimes during the three-week assault on Gaza in 2009 that killed over 1,400 Palestinian men, women, and children, most of whom were unarmed civilians. The Strauss Group's active support for the Golani and Givati brigades is an active endorsement of egregious violations of human rights.  

In light of the Strauss Group's ongoing support of the Golani and Givati brigades, which both act against international human rights standards, the University's affiliation with the stocking of Sabra Hummus is inconsistent with Northeastern's Core Values of Contribution and Integrity. Continued distribution of Sabra hummus products aligns Northeastern University with the perpetuation of egregious harms and shocking injustices. Therefore, we call on Northeastern to permanetly refrain from buying, stocking, and using Sabra hummus products.

Rabbit fur operations were recently uncovered in both France and China, where large-scale rabbit slaughter facilities were exposed.

Rabbits are thrown into tiny wire cages that hurt their delicate feet, and they're treated much like vermin. When it comes time to kill them, rabbits at these locations were shown to be hung upside down shortly before their skin was cruelly ripped from their bodies.

Tell Giorgio Armani to stop supporting this cruelty and naming it "fashion". His successful company can do quite well without torturing small animals.

Cancel Rabbit Killing Workshop

A local, urban organic vegetable farm, (Knotweed Urban Farm in Pennsylvania), has been breeeding rabbits on the farm property and plans to hold a "rabbit harvest" on Friday, September 28.

Children have been invited to watch the rabbit slaughter firsthand. Paula Jean of Knotweed Urban Farm confirmed that kids "need to know where their food comes from."

The idea that animals are somehow respected when they are killed apart from factory farming is no less a life stolen. It is never respectful to take another individual's life, whether it happens in a large scale or small scale operation.

A lesson in hands-on violence towards animals can only teach cruelty when we should be teaching compassion and empathy.

Urge the people of Knotweed Urban Farm to keep their focus on the cultivation of plants, and demand that they spare the lives of these rabbits and any other animals they’re planning to kill.

Support Orthodox Jewish Feminist Organization in their fight to end Gender Segregation

The women of Kolech, the first Orthodox Jewish feminist organization, has filed Israel's first-ever gender segregation class action lawsuit.

The organization of women is attempting to end the deeply engrained discrimination that has denied women a voice in their community.
"Usually we talk about [discrimination against women] and nothing happens," said Riki Shapira, Kolech board member. "When people will understand it's going to cost them a lot of money, we hope that things are going to change."
The lawsuit comes after an ultra-Orthodox radio station repeatedly denied women's voices on their station's programming. Even if the subject matter was women, not one single women's voice was permitted.
Gender segregation in the ultra-Orthodox community is rampant. Just recently, a teenage girl was forced to the back of the bus by two Orthodox men while an 8-year-old girl was spat on for "dressing immodestly." It is time for change.

Israel, Let Palestinian enjoy life and go to beach

A Palestinian is a human being who lives for example in the west bank region which is concretely controlled by Israeli Army, while a palestinian authority as a useless interface that controlls most of the inner cities.
Israel, ignore this Interface and communicate with the people. If I am as a palestinian allowed to travel freely and move there and from there as easily as other israeli humans live there, and if I am allowed to be in Natanya beach if I liked, then there will be no harm and I will not spend my days and hours hating israel and thinking of harming anyone in it.

Israel: Stop Mistreatment of Palestinian Hungerstrikers

Palestinian hungersrikers are being grossly mistreated by Israeli prison officers according to their lawyer. The men are under administrative detention, where detainees, usually Palestinian militants, are held without trial to avoid revealing sensitive security information.

Samer Al-Barq has been on hunger strike for 80 days and Hassan Safadi for 50 days. Both men are in a very poor state of heath and risk death according to their doctor from Physicians for Human Rights-Israel.

The men are sharing a 1.5 by 1.8 metre cell with no windows or ventilation as well as one wheelchair, which they need to go to the toilet and shower.

Al-Barq was beaten on the legs when he told prison guards he couldn’t walk and Safadi says that his cell is regularly raided and he is then insulted and beaten.

Because of Ramadan the men only drink water after sunset and they are refusing vitamin and mineral supplements in protest against the recent abuse against them.
